Reports today, suggest that FC Dallas defender George John, is the target of Roberto Martinez to help beef up the Latics defence. John who nearly moved to Blackburn in the summer is priced at £1.5 million.
The 24 year-old central defender is consider a hot talent, and other clubs have reportedly been interested in him. However with Latics looking to strength their back four, will he be the right man?
George John is of USA birth, but of Greek heritage and has been called up for both international squads. He has yet to decide who to play for. He stands at 6ft3 and has made 65 appearances for FC Dallas since making his debut two years ago.
He shows talent, but does he have the quality and experience to adapt to Premier League football. It is the one thing Martinez and scouting staff must ask themselves. We need to sign players to help us fight in the short term, looking at young players who will develop will not help us to fight our way out of the bottom of the table come January.
