The forgotten man for Wigan, could look to rekindle his Latics career over the next month, with the absence of Mohammed Diame. Hendry Thomas the defensive midfield player has over the past 12 months played hardly any game time for Wigan. Two game I believe it to be.
For what reason I am not quite sure. He was poised to sign under Steve Bruce, and when Martinez joined, he (Hendry Thomas) became the clubs first new signing of the new era. He would go on to have a great first season in the Premier League, and for most of it looked a better player than Diame did. Although their partnership in the defensive half of our midfield was solid.
By the beginning of the second season Thomas continued in such vein, and looked like he would be again one of our best players. But come February he was out the side and has been ever since.
Why I and many other fans are not quite sure, the player for me never put a foot wrong. Okay rough in the tackle but we need someone like that in our midfield we still do.
But with our current hard man (Diame) on his way out for the next two months, then Thomas looks to be right back in contention.
Martinez told Wigan Today:
We all know what Hendry has done over the past two seasons," Martinez told the Evening Post. "For a foreign player to make over 50 starts in the Premier League is a massive return."
"He’s very close to the first team, but that’s purely down to the competition of midfielders at the club."
"It could be that Hendry takes his chance (in Diame’s absence) and plays a big role for us."
"We also want to sit down and try to extend his contract, that would be our view. Hendry needs to be happy with it, and I know that he wants to play."
"Nothing’s changed in my eyes. It’s just that other players have taken their opportunities and kept their places."
