Months ago (well in late November) Martinez was already talking about what he hoped for the January transfer window. He has and remains to say, that the club are looking to sign a minimum of three players on of whom will be on a loan deal. Well we are now nine days into the January window, and all things transfer have gone very quite at Wigan.

A deal for Rodallega and Diame to stay at the club, will most likely be our main priority and me and many other fans would be happy for them to be the only permanent signings of the window we make. But with the return of Patrick Van Anholt, we can get two fresh lads on loan.

So why haven't we already?

For me players you loan in, nine times out of ten will do better than players you buy in. For the simple reason they are there to impress. Either to make a move to the club they are on loan at, or so that their parent club takes notice of them. Last year, arguably our two best players were our loan players in Ali Al Habsi and Tom Cleverly.

Signing two lads like that towards the end of the season could really boost the squad.

So who would be a good fit for the side?

Well according to most sources Mame Biram Diouf is one of the players that Wigan are looking at. The lively young striker who did very well on loan at Blackburn last year could very well be on his wait out again of United. After failing to sign Mecheda this lad would make an excellent second option.

There are two other players from the top teams I would like to see make a switch to Wigan this winter.

Nedum Onuoha is a very strong and capable center back, and at the age of 25 is getting on. He is always tipped for an England place and has the quality to be up there with the best of them. Someone like him would help to bolster our weak defence.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of the hottest young talents out there and could very much help our need in the attacking area. I know he is very similar in style to Moses, but he has that extra bit about him, which we need when going forward. He hasn't got into the Arsenal first team yet, so maybe a loan away might be on the cards.
