We hoped, and we prayed, and the FA said okay. The stupid red card for Jordi Gomez, which cost us the game against Sunderland, has now be rescinded and the player is free to play for Latics. So there is some positives for the week ahead, and it is always nice to get one over a referee.
The clubs official site said the following on the topic:
The club can confirm that following an appeal to the FA, the red card shown to midfielder Jordi Gomez by referee Howard Webb following a tackle with Sunderland midfielder Danny Rose in the Barclays Premier League game at the Stadium of Light on Saturday September 28, has now been rescinded.
The club submitted video evidence, along with a personal letter from manager Roberto Martinez to explain the reasoning behind the appeal.
It of course doesn't make up for the fact that we still lost 1-0 to Sunderland, in a game we could have and should have won, and we not lost Gomez. But that is all in the past, and we now have to move on with our football and performances.
