You voted and a tie was the result between the captain and the midfielder who has finally burst into the first team. So my deciding vote will decided the winner and I am going for our Captain. Gary Caldwell has finally started to looked like the player we signed two seasons ago and has given me some confidence in his defensive ability.
I say that now, but this time next weekend I will probably be wishing I hadn't said anything.
Last season the Scottish international never really hit his top form. That could be due to playing along side a new defensive partner he had never played with before, or the fact that he had spent most of the summer in bed after having both hips operated on.
What ever it was, it looked like Martinez had picked up another worthless player.
Yet the past two months our captain has started to well look like captain and learnt how to make a tackle. I was very impressed with his performance against Aston Villa which I saw all of it. Making every tackle he could and urging the players around him to take a hit for the team and throw their bodies on the line. He even managed to his head on the end of Jean Beasuejour's cross against Bolton to put us 1-0 up.
That kind of inspirational football is what this team needs. A stronger character to stand out for the young lads that are playing around him.
Keep up the good work Gary!
