Oh dear me. It was and will be a week of what ifs. What if Moses had started against Swansea? What if Di Santo's head had made contact with the ball a few minutes before they scored their first? Yet in Premier League football, what if's, aren't good enough. You have to be making the headlines and doing everything right to do well.
That appears to be the complete opposite to what Wigan are doing. So okay we rested Victor Moses because he played a tough midweek game for Nigeria, me the player and all the fans can understand that. But why not play him for the first half. get us in front then bring him off. Surely if you are to replace Victor, your stick the mighty midget of Albert Crusat on.
Its the one thing I can't comprehend with Martinez. His tactics are times are baffling. Against the big teams. 9/10 times he can match them and know how to even beat them. Yet when you factor in the fight and passion that the teams in mid-table play with. Then he has no clue.
Sometimes you wonder if he wouldn't be better in Spain. There his technical thinking may prove more fruitful. Yet he knows the English game better than most having in and around it for the past 17 years. So why can't he see what to do?
That is a question that he himself can only answer.
Hopefully he has learnt from his mistakes over the past few times and will go with our strongest squad for the Sunday game against Norwich. If he doesn't know our strongest 11 then he needs to have a good look at the players at our club.
Last Saturday three of our best players were on the bench. If you included Hugo Rodallega, Mohammed Diame and Victor Moses. Into a teams with James McCarthy, Franco Di Santo and Jean Beasuejour. Then you would have a very strong midfield and front three.
So what about Norwich. Well since the first game of the season. We have gone in our separate directions. They have shot up to mid table and we have dropped to the bottom. Led by Grant Holt, they have managed to pull off some scalps and look like they never left the Premier League.
I say Grant Holt has he has shown that strikers can make that jump up to the Premier League, even at the older end of their careers and still look very very good for it. having scored 12 goals so far this season. The big strong center forward is one to watch, as any ball in the box. He will most defiantly be looking to get on the end of.
The good news for Wigan is that he doesn't have any pace to look to get in behind the center backs. In recent weeks that has proved the best way to open us up.
The game will be a tight one, but one that Latics have to win. Lets hope a superior away from will do us proud this time round.
