In the end the result was really the run away winner. Getting nearly 50% of the votes, Shaun Maloney's curling shot against Manchester United won our goal of the season and rightly too. The goal is a great one to watch but not only that, it was the goal that lead us to victory over United for the very first time.

It has been a long and rugged past of games between Manchester United and Wigan Athletic. They were the first team to face us at our new Stadium. And we have never ever taken points of them, until Shaun Maloney hit a word class strike into De Gea's left hand corner.

The three points that we got that night very much kicked us into gear for the remaining fixtures of the season and gave us the confidence to go on and beat Arsenal the following Monday. Many people have pinpointed the victory over Liverpool as our turning point, that maybe true, but this victory over United was the important one to keep the momentum.

And it was fitting that a great performance that the lads put in on the night, were we not only won but dominated a poor United side, that the goal was something special. It will be one of the many highlights of this season and for a good reason.

And a goal I don't think I will ever forget. And just to see it all again, the goal is on at 43 seconds in.
