I have been very reluctant to do anything about Roberto Martinez, each and every hour the situation keeps changing on what is happening with the Liverpool job and with Martinez's future at Wigan. This has probably been the busiest 48 hours in the clubs history, in terms of speculation and what is going in and around our club.
Dave Whelan as ever has continually stoked the rumour mill. Hints here and there of what Roberto is saying and what may happen if he doesn't return to Wigan. For example telling media the days and times when Martinez is talking to the FSG and the terms of the deal.
In the next 48 hours we are expecting to hear exactly what is going to happen with Wigan and with Liverpool. The Liverpool job being announced on Friday. Wigan are to have a press conference on Thursday, or so it is planned.
But yet again it has moved along again quickly in the last few hours. Martinez's is going from the bookies favourite to second best. That is now with the revelation that Brendan Rodgers is in the hot seat to take the job. So just what has changed for Roberto to fall back to number two?
Well I believe that it is that he wouldn't have total control of all football matters. If you know Roberto he is a man that wants to be involved in everything. From youth team training to going and watching possible transfer targets. Even at Wigan he has people who do it for him, but he still has the ruling say.
At Liverpool it looks like they want to put into place a director of football. For our Roberto, working under someone when it comes to terms of the players that are brought in and the way in which the football team is structured, is a big no no. So with that in mind it looked like Bobby has turned the job down.
So now what?
Well it was rumoured that Martinez was re-interested in the Aston Villa job. However I am led to believe that Randy Lerner has started to look elsewhere and won't be come knocking for Roberto. If that was to be the case then brilliant.
But either way, Dave Whelan has said that he will invest more money into the club in an attempt to keep Roberto and full fill the Spaniard's ambition of taking Wigan into Europe. Which we would all love to see.
So please don't go Roberto, we want you to stay and lead us to glory Bobby.
