The Greek winger, has been high in the speculation for one of the players that Wigan are in the look out for this coming summer. And with Martinez out in Poland and having watched the Greek players train at least twice. The rumour could be more than just that.
So who is Dimitris? And what can we expect from the player who has played three games and scored a goal at this seasons European Finals. Well at the age of 30, he isn't one for the future and would be a player who would have to come in and make an instant hit with the team.
How much would he cost? Well he is likely to be around the £2 million mark. Part of a PAOK FC side in Greece, who are stuck in the countries big economic dip. So there is expected to be a mass exodus of the talented players out of the Greek Leagues.
So where does he play. He is one of those players who I say fills the Henry role. Isn't it weird how we put names to positions by the players we think do well in them? So that is that Dimitris plays on the winger who cuts in and scores from the wing. Providing pace and technical ability to cut through defences.
He has never played outside of Greek football, and is a player who has excelled in the leagues. You wonder why he hasn't gone elsewhere during that time. Playing for Panathinaikos between 2006-2010 scoring 46 times in 121 appearances. For a winger/striker that is a fantastic record. That's not including his 24 assists in the same time.
How would he fit into our team? Would fill the Victor Moses role, in playing of the main striker and opening up defences with pace and ability on the ball to provide space and a pass to his team mates. Do we need him then? That question will be a yes if Moses leaves the club.
For the time being I don't think he would be a player we should be looking at. Nether the less he could be a useful addition to the squad.
