Well Sky Sports are talking about it in their Transfer Updates, and it looks like Wigan are closing in on a new defender, after turning their back on one we looked to sign in January. First reports are currently suggesting that Ivan Ramis will become the clubs first summer signing after Dave Whelan and player had 'face to face' talks following an agreement between the two clubs (Wigan Athletic and Mallorca). The deal worth to be around £2.5 million would see Wigan beat off competition from several other clubs.
Yet it means that the club have missed a beat on a target much closer to home. Adrian Mariappa is now on the verge of signing for Reading after they agreed a fee with Watford and the player had a medical at Reading today. It comes as a blow that we miss out of the 24 year old.
Yet the news that Wigan are closing in on their first summer signing is great news and one that will go down well with fans. Especially as the summer market starts to heat up, and Wigan have yet to make any sort of move.
