Ivan always looked to be Roberto Martinez's first signing this summer. The 27 year old defender is set to leave the sunny climate of Mallorca this summer and travel to England, the player has expressed a wish to do so and Martinez looked to lead the chase for the player with an early bid of around the 2.5 million pound mark. That was ahead of a host of other clubs the likes of Aston Villa, Sunderland and Norwich City who are said to be also following the player.
Neither of the above teams has yet to submit offers, Wigan having been the only ones to have done so, the offer now currently standing at round about the 4 million pound area, and the club have confirmed the rumours yesterday. It looks to be one big step forward in our quest to sign a new defender.
But will it be enough? With other clubs lurking with they jump in ahead of us and make a bigger offer. The player is believed to have a release clause in his contract for any offer of about 6 million euros.
Repersentatives of the player have said he is intrested in a move to Wigan, and it is just a case of 'waiting and seeing what happens'. That can sound both good and bad depending on how you wish to take it.
All that is certain at the moment is that Wigan are closing in on him, and as of the moment we look to be unopposed for the player.
