Scouting Report: Jamie Murphy

Jamie Murphy on the move this summer, could he move to Latics?

Now Jamie Murphy is a player who has got bags of talent and at the age of 23, having had a great couple of seasons in the SPL, he could be ready to move up to the Premier League. He has been linked with Wigan in the past, and it looked likely last summer that he was Wigan bound before the deal fell through.

Yet this summer with one year left on Murphy's contract, it looks like Motherwell are going to cash in on there player. This is after he could have signed for Blackpool in January for a very reasonable fee of £400,000. Not really breaking the bank for a player who looks the part.

Murphy mostly plies his trade as a winger, much like the modern form cutting in from the wing to open up the space and have a shot on goal. Last season he was rewarded with nine league goals from 36 appearances. Not a bad return for a player who should be hugging the touch line.

International Murphy as yet to represent the full Scottish National team. However he has played at under-21 level playing 13 times and scoring five goals. Yet another very good return for a wide man. Jamie does seem to be able to pop up with a few goals now and then, and that is when he isn't running at defenders to cause problems anyway.

I have seen him play a couple of times last season, with Motherwell who had an exceptional season to finish 3rd in the SPL, and you get that feeling about him that when he is on the play he can make things happen. That is a good sign and his ball control and strength on the ball would also lend well to a Premier League move.

Now if this player were to come, he could provide the replacement for Victor Moses, if Moses does leave the club. With a deal likely to only cost Wigan about half a million (for Murphy) then I couldn't see why it wouldn't happen. Currently there is no confirmed link, but it wouldn't surprise me if before long the media starts to drum up stories about the player coming to the DW Stadium, with him having already had links in the past.
