December's Player of the Month: James McCarthy

Last month was not a particularly good one for Latics. We managed only one win in the lists of fixtures. Yet one man was by far the bet player. He has been the most consistent of our current crop of players. That man is James McCarthy, the Republic of Ireland international has started to finally pick up in form after a couple of years of developing as a player.

Now James is becoming the player we all once thought he could be. Remember all those years ago, that game against Wolverhampton Wanderers and a new star was born. Then disaster, a serious of injuries and he couldn't manage a full season. Then last season with a year free of injury he began his redevelopment, which has continued to this season.

This season he has been fantastic. By a long yard he has been the man to watch. Constant pressing and tackling to stop attacks from the opposition, then trying to burst off with a quick spurt of pace and try to start an attack himself. His distribution is still not 100%, some passes are wayward, others are under hit.

Yet his effort and desire to work for the team hasn't gone unnoticed. In the past he has been linked with a move away to the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea. Now it looks like Arsenal lead the way to sign the 22 year olds signiture. Yet with any deal reportedly only at £8 million, they should go look elsewhere.

James will defiantly be here till the end of the current season, and hopefully beyond.
