Week Two of January Transfer Window: No New Signings, Anymore to Come?

After Two signings in the first week, Latics fans hoped for more signings yet none have appeared and there are even less rumours of Martinez signing anyone else. Yet there could be one more before the end of the month, but who will it be?

Tim Keeton

Its been quite the past week, unfortunately. I wanted more signings and I think the side needs them. Two more players is the realistic aim, if not going for three. We need a striker someone experienced in the Premier League and we need a young talented defender who we can shape into a star, then a winger who can add something to our attack.

First though who has we been linked with? The usual is all I can say. The players we have been linked are very 'Martinezy'. David Bentley, Graham Dorrans are two names who have been bounced about. Neither of them we have had any concrete interest in, and I can't see us having any.

Bentley would come in on high wages, and is badly out for form. While Dorrans is a midfielder who we really don't need having just signed Roger Espinoza.

It is defence that must be looked at now. With Ivan Ramis out to end of the season we need a defender, and a young one at that. Two young defenders have been mentioned with the club, John Stones from Barnsley who is a right sided defender. Someone to replace Emmerson Boyce? With Boyce getting on in years moving him more centrally would be the natural thing to do. The other defender is young West Brom center back in Callum Dawson who we are linked with on loan.

If we do want Dawson we have to give up on player on loan. That would imply that Ryo Miyiachi would be leaving the club. Could that happen? The Japanese youngster hasn't been fit long enough to play for Latics and that has been a disappointment, he could solve out need for a winger could he return.

Options are available, and with QPR sniffing around Peter Odemwingie, who Roberto is a big fan of, could the next player we sign be a striker? I wouldn't bet against Martinez making a move for the Nigerian International. He would be the man we need to plug gaps up front and as an attacking winger.

Will we sign anyone else? Who would you like to see us get in a blue and white shirt? Let us know and comment below.
