Transfer deadline day is usually quite for Latics, we don't often get involved that much, yet this season is different. With the club needing signings to boost us out of the drop zone, Martinez and team have been working round teh clock to get deals done. Speaking of Martinez, lets start with him.
The clubs media channels had the match preview with the gaffer this morning, his comments were aso given on what the fans can expect from the club today. He hinted it would be buzy, ad commented on the fact that unfortunatly McGeady was not on his way to Wigan.
A fee had been agreed and the club was talking to the winger about the move to England. Before he made changed his mind and instead wished to stay in Russia. The stumbling block? The wingers wages. He is reportedly on £70,000 a week at Moscow, if he came to Latics he would have to accept something in the region of £40,000 a week. Too low for the ex-celtic winger it appears.
Now for the good news!
Paul Scharner has signed on a six month oan deal. Great work by the club to sign Paul, and the player has spoken of his excitment to be coming back to a club where he will forever be a true legend. Who could forget his hair cuts, not to mention the garage parties. Great head to have in the team.
The other piece of really exciting news is the signing of 18 year od defender John Stones from Barnsley. Stones who can play anywhere in defence will be a great addition to the squad, and a long term plan for our defencce. A deal worth £2 million has been agreed, and Stone now only have to agree personal terms.
Busy day so far and so much much more to come. Wigan still want an attacker and Martinez will be on the hunt to bring someone in. Nathan Redmond from Birmingham City? Anything is possible on deadline day.
