It was the opening weekend of the FA Cup as League 1 and below and non-league teams who qualified took part in round 1. Rob Kiernan was the only lad to get a game this week as League Two side Southend United breezed past fellow League 2 opposition Morcambe 3-0. Jordan Mustoe and Bury had no game this week as there tie with Cambridge United was postponed due to a waterlogged Gigg Lane. Fraser Fyvie was ineligible for Yeovil in the 1-0 defeat against parent club Wigan.

According to a friend who was at the game, Kiernan put in a good solid display at centre back, winning his fair amount of headers and comfortably keeping a clean sheet. The Shrimpers got off to a flyer as Anthony Straker put them 2-0 up in the first 9 minutes at the Globe Arena. He bundled in a Kevan Hurst cross before having a shot deflected in off Morcambe stopper Barry Roche, Ryan Leonard sealed the victory for former Hull manager Phil Brown with his long range effort sending the travelling fans home happy.

The victory sets up an away trip to Chesterfield in the second round who beat part timers Daventry Town 2-0. The tie will be played on the 7th of December the winner will go into the third round which is where Premier League and Chmapionship teams come in.

Fraser Fyvie (unless fit) will have no game next week as Yeovil head into the international break off the back of that defeat to Wigan. Whilst Southend and Rob Kiernan prepare for the visit of York City next Saturday where a win could see them climb as high as 5th. Meanwhile Bury and Jordan Mustoe pack for the away trip to Bristol Rovers where 3 points could see them go 5 clear of the drop zone.
