Injuries and Suspension: Maynor Figueroa out for the Season

This one may or may not hurt us as much as Alcaraz’s injury. Yet not having the ever reliable Figueroa in a Wigan team is much like there not being an Emmerson Boyce. It doesn’t quite feel right.

Much like the mid-part of our season our defensive injuries are starting to mount up again. Last time we missed Antolin Alcaraz, Emmerson Boyce and Gary Caldwell. This time round it is Ivan Ramis, Antolin Alcaraz and Myanor Figueroa we will have to do with.

Figueroa the newest to sustain an injury will now more than likely miss the rest of the season. At the time it looked very much like a serious groin injury, as the player couldn’t leave the pitch under his own steam; I half expected a tear.

The results suggest it isn’t that serious but it is a serious enough strain that Figueroa will not feature again for Latics this season. So now historical day at Wembley for Figgy, and the game against Tottenham could be the last we ever see him play.

With the defenders contract up at the end of the season, the player could walk away from the club for free in the summer. I hope we can tie him down to a new contract.
