Scott Carson arrived at the club three week ago from Turkish club Bursaspor for a fee of £800,000. That is the rumored fee, is that is true, then the club have gotten an absolute steal of a deal. The 27 year old goalkeeper comes to the club of the back of a spell in Turkey where he shone in goal for the club, across the two season securing success.
Carson still has that odd mistake in him, yet the goalkeeper has grown a lot from his time away on the continent. He returns to the UK joining Wigan after family problems have forced him to finish his stint in Turkey, where Bursaspor where more than happy to help a player who had given them two years good service.
Now its Scott's job to come in and fill the goalkeeping position for the early part of the season. Ali Al Habsi is unlikely to be fit for the start of the season after an operation on his shoulder which caused him continual problems over the course of last season.
Our other two goalkeepers in young Lee Nicholls and the ever faithful Mike Pollitt, both have their limitations as an immediate back up goalkeeper. Lee is still learning his trade and could be a viable option in the league and domestic cup competitions, while with Pollitt you can never know how long the players groins will hold.
So with that in mind, Scott Carson joins the club as the main goalkeeper till we get everyone else up to speed and fitness. A good way to start our round up of signings and a for a bargain price, Scott will be an important figure of the forthcoming months for Wigan.
