Big Season For: Lee Nicholls

Our young English goalkeeper could be in line to make a few senior appearances for the club next season. After an impressive loan spell at Northampton Town the goalkeeper is blossoming into an excellent keeper and this year could be the year he breaks into the Latics team.

Pete Norton

Our highly rated goalkeeper will be hoping, as much of us are that this will be his big season when he can break into the first team. Lee Nicholls has impressed more or less everyone who has seen him play or coached him, and for a 20 year old goalkeeper that is a good thing to have.

The Liverpool born keeper has been at the club since 2009 and he has always been totted as one who could go all the way and be the first choice goalkeeper for England. Whether or not he has that in him will be determined in the next few years, but his excellent season with Northampton Town will go along way to showing people what he is capable of.

With some many games next season, and with Ali Al Habsi likely to miss the start of the season and linked with a move away from the club, the keeper has to feel that he could get a few games under his belt; he is yet to make a senior appearance for us.

Agile, imposing and great positioning all combined to make him a keeper with an abundance of natural ability; watching Lee makes being a goalkeeper looking easy at times. Hopefully he can continue in such form for the next season.

Will Lee be part of the Latics squad? I would like him to be so. However is he is given the chance to go out on loan to a League One or Championship team then the club maybe tempted to say to Lee you want a season of full first team football. Before that though we need to get him signed down to a new contract.
