It is going to be a long season for Wigan Athletic if they do not start playing as a team. Although they looked dangerous on the attack, defensively they looked weak and the back four did not gel together as it should have. Wigan should be fairly happy, however, as they managed to carve a draw out of a game they probably should have lost. At half time the score-line was 2-0 to Doncaster and immediately after the break they should have made it 3-0 as Khumalo hit the post from a header. Wigan persisted though and Maloney scored a beautifully placed free kick on 57 minutes. After numerous chances for Doncaster and a lot of time wasting from ‘keeper Ross Turnbull Leon Barnett directed a Fortune cross in to the back of the net to make the score 2-2 on 80 minutes. After the way they played Wigan should be happy with a draw but need to sort the defence out before their next game or there could be trouble.
