These next few articles from me will be a look at the signings the club has made in the summer transfer window, starting with goalkeepers.
It's simple enough to say that Scott Carson has been the lifeline of the Latics team so far this season. He has saved far too many shots that a lesser keeper would be pulling from the back of the net. He's been our Man of the Match in several games, including games we've lost. That says a lot about his work rate.
Carson came to Wigan from Bursaspor and has proven that he has a strong desire to earn a permanent spot in our team. Carson was also quoted to say that he would like to try and earn his place back in the England squad and I think, if he keeps up this display, he may have one at the end of the season.
So far this season, we've only had one clean sheet and that was against Barnsley in the season opener. It's hard to criticise Carson for that. On a number of occasions our defence has been shockingly poor and Carson has often made up for that.
So far I believe Scott to have been our best signing. With Al-Habsi injured we needed a big player to step in and Carson has certainly done that. When Ali returns, he will be fighting for a starting spot.
