Man of the Match vs Crystal Palace

We're through to the next round! Can we make the final again?

Clive Mason

So, Wigan managed to beat the Premier League Crystal Palace in an exciting match to advance to the next round of the cup. There were a lot of terrific performances in this game and I'm glad to see the players taking the FA Cup so seriously. A lot of people would have written us so, despite being the cup holders, but we're fighting strong!

Ali Al-Habsi had an outstanding display in the goal this game, pulling out several top-notch saves that won us the match. I'm glad to see Ali returning to the top of his game and really putting in the effort we need to survive!

Leon Barnett was solid in defence again this game and is surely becoming a staple in the back row. Ben Watson commanded the midfield brilliantly this game. I really hope no one comes in to take him away, we really need Ben to take control of the middle of the park and he'd be so hard to replace.

Despite these three great performances, for me, James McClean, Callum McManaman and Roger Espinoza had absolutely stand out games. Our Wingers were on top form and showed just how dangerous they can be. I'm glad they're finally starting to gel together. McClean set up Watson's goal and scored our winner too so it's very hard to argue against him for man of the match. However...

Roger Espionza takes that award this game. The man was on fire. He was full of energy and helped set up the two goals perfectly. He was tireless in attack and defence and showed a passion and work rate that we just don't see often enough in football. I proudly give Roger the Man of the Match award.
