It was a very tricky game on paper. Derby were on a two month unbeaten run and we were just starting up our own. We wanted nothing more than to stop their moment and turn it into fuel for our own.
The first half was slow, and in attack sloppy but defence saw a bigger improvement. We kept Derby quiet with three of the players who cost us 3 goals last time around. Their display was far better this time out and I'm sure every Wigan fan is grateful.
There wasn't much to speak of until Forunte's near-miss. Powell had had a quiet game and Fortune wasn't excellent but things were starting to pick up and eventually we came to a corner that changed the game. Jean Beausejour has scored two goals for Wigan in his career but his latest match winning effort was an absolutely world class goal. He is our Man of the Match, not just because of this, but because of the outstanding effort he put into the game throughout. This is Beausejour in top form and when you meet him on the field just try and stop him!
My hat goes off to a number of players in the game. Leon Barnett and Roger Espinoza had terrific games worthy of the Man of the Match title had it been another day.
This makes Wigan unbeaten in five games and unbeaten under Uwe Rosler as far as the Championship is concerned.
