During January, Wigan have scored some absolute scorchers in all competitions from 30 yard screamers to classic finshes. I nominate my 3 top goals scored in January.
First off, we have Jean Beausejour's screamer against Derby County on New Year's Day. The Chilean winger played a shot corner with Callum McManaman before receiving the ball back just inside the Derby area before unleashing a fierce drive into the roof of the net giving Derby shot stopper Lee Grant no chance as the ball flew past him into the far corner eventually giving Wigan all 3 points. Beausejour doesn't score many but when he does, wow.
Next we come to our defence of the FA Cup and to Roger Espinoza, The midfielder opened the scoring for the Latics in their third round tie against MK Dons and what a opener in was. James McClean went on another pointless run which saw him lose the ball yet again but the clearance from the Dons defence was feeble, the ball fell to Espinoza 35 yards out, the Honduran took one touch and powered home a fierce shot into the far corner of the net. The Honduran's second goal for the club was eventually voted as the Goal of the Round by the FA.
My third and final contender is from our Spanish midfield maestro Jordi Gomez against Eddie Howe's Bournemouth, Wigan were comfortably 2-0 up and capped it off with a 3rd in the last seconds of the game as Nick Powell jerked his way into the Cherries' back line laying off the ball to Marc Antoine Fortune who in turn gave the ball to Gomez, the Spaniard took one touch to prepare himself and powered the ball home into the bottom corner from 30 yards out comfortably beating Lee Camp.
My Goal of the Month goes to Roger Espinoza for his drive against MK Dons.
