Paper Talk: Ben Watson Close to Contract Extension

As you may know our cup hero is very close to finishing his contract with us this season, along with Jordi Gomez and Jean Beausejour. Since his start at the club Uwe Rosler has looked to get all three signed to carry on with the club; the news today is that Ben Watson is close to signing a new deal.

In January it was widely reported that Ben Watson was being eyed up by a number of clubs to strength their midfield's. With the player out of contract in six months it wouldn't have been a surprise is we had let the player go, if the right price and come in. Yet as it turned out Uwe Rosler held strong on a player who has been a key figure in our squad this season.

Watson even under Owen Coyle was always a major part of our central midfield and that has continued. Often slated at times for poor passes and poor set piece delivery, Watson has still been one of our better performers this season especially since the arrival of Uwe Rosler.

Ben was flying high and hitting one of the best forms of his time her at Latics, when that game at Bransley happened. The double leg break ruling him out for the rest of the season. Rumors suggest that we continued contract talks as the club do not want to give up such a valuable asset.

The talks appear to have been more or less concluded with a new one year extension said to now be in the offing between Wigan Athletic and Ben Watson.
