This summer looks set to see a big turn around in players, half from Uwe Rosler wanting to bring in his own players, and secondly as we need to reduce our wage bill and stay on a good financial footing. Hopefully we keep the majority of our squad and just add a few extra players.
It looks likely though that players who have contracts up this summer, will not be staying on. We have managed to get Ben Watson down for another year, more likely due to his injury ruling out teams coming in for him over the summer. Yet the rest of our squad will more than likely depart.
One player being linked with a departure on a free today is Jean Beausejour. Signed by Roberto Martinez in 2012, the winger come full-back has excelled out wide on the left and has been a regular in the Wigan team during his time here. Yet the Chilean international, who was recently named in the Chile team for the world cup in Brazil, looks set to leave this summer.
Jean is likely to be on a high wage bill, and as good as he his I don't think he massively fits into Uwe Rosler's plans for the future of the club. So a mutual parting maybe in the pipeline this summer, with Everton, Marsellie and Bordeaux all linked with the player. A move to Everton would be interesting as Jean would be in direct competition with Leighton Baines at Everton, although with them fighting in Europe next season a free signing of Beasejour would be a good move for them.
The other player who is being linked with a move away is centeral midfielder James McArthur who is being watched by newly promoted Burnley. The midfielder has been the most consistent player all season for the Latics, and has gone on to impress even more with Rosler in charge, the question now is would James leave the club.
For me he could go a lot higher than Burnley, no offence intended, but James has the ability to be playing for a Premier League team fighting for European football. Which makes me wonder is Martinez would look to reunite the two James is he can't land Gareth Barry at Everton.
Hopefully though we manage to keep hold of James. I would though expect we have seen the last of Jean Beausejour in a Wigan shirt.
