Confirmed Transfer: Don Cowie Completes Wigan Athletic Switch

Only earlier today I was talking about us being short in midfield due to injuries, I also suggested that we had been linked with several players to help fill the gap. Well the club have and made the signing of Scottish midfielder Don Cowie.

With the loss of Jordi Gomez to Sunderland and the returns of our loan midfielders to their parent clubs, plus long term absentees of Chris McCann and Ben Watson we needed another midfielder. There are also currently a few concerns over the fitness of James McArthur and Shaun Maloney, with Roger Espionza still to recover from his trip to the World Cup.

So our current crop of five senior midfielders are all going to cut it short to be fit for the start of the season. Clearly we needed someone else to come in and sure up our midfield and well Uwe Rosler has pulled out another great signing.

31 year old Don Cowie joins us on a free transfer from Cardiff City after playing 20 times last season for the Blue Birds, the midfielder was wanted in Wales, but he has instead decided to start a new chapter in his career. We have reportedly had to fight off a few other clubs for this lad, and goes to show just how hard we are working to get the right kind of players this summer.

Very much suited to Rosler's style of play, Cowie is known for that dynamic style of football which we are use to our Scottish players playing. As well as that he brings in plenty of experience having played at both Premier League and Championship level with Cardiff City and Watford.

Our fifth signing of the summer and already we are starting to pick up a certain type of player, all very hunger and having played at varying levels of the football. Welcome to the club Cowie, hope you settle in well!
