Injury Update: James McClean Joins Injury List

Just when we could start with player coming back into the fold, another of our lads manages to get himself injured.

So that now makes it five players who are serious worries for the start of the season now as James McClean joins the long list of injury worries that we have at the club. The winger managed to fall over and twist his ankle in training and was declared unfit to play against Basiktas and unfit to travel to Germany for next weeks training camp, the signs of that aren't good.

McClean was very much a player that I hoped after a full pre-season training under Uwe Rosler  would be very much ready to give his all this season for Wigan Athletic. Hopefully the Republic of Ireland international can make a speedy recovery and get himself back on track, we are going to need him for any promotion push this season.

That said our other injured players are reportedly recovering well. Both Roger Espionza, who will return from post World Cup rest this week, and Don Cowie need time to get full up to speed ahead of the new season, but will be able to play come the start.

Whilst James McArthur and Shaun Maloney still remain on target to return for the 9th August. Question is will they be risked though? Both James Tavernier and Fraser Fyvie put in good shifts against Besiktas and looked very comfortable in midfield, defiantly an option for us if we have players struggling to be fit.

Especially when we have the long term injury concerns of Chris McCann and Ben Watson to think about. Both players are recovering well and speaking to 5Live yesterday Uwe Rosler suggest that McCann is ahead of schedule, defiantly positive signs if that is true.
