First of all a bit about the player we have been linked with. Brian Lenihan is a right back who has been one of the stand out players over in Ireland the past year, subsequently he has attracted a lot of interested from English clubs. Everyone from Arsenal to Crystal Palace has been linked with a move for the defender this summer.
In the past week, local Irish press have been talking up the on going 'bidding war' with Steve Bruce confirming he had been interested in the young defender. So far none else has commented on their interested and it looks very like the club and agent trying to stir up competition to raise his price.
Hence why I think our name has been dropped in the hat. He does appear to be very much a Uwe Rosler signing though; young and full of energy. It would almost make you wonder if we were linked with him had we not already made the signing of James Travernier this summer.
Very sorry to say but I think this may be a false link.
Much like what the Herald also went onto say about James McClean. They reported that Uwe Rosler no longer sees him as part of his plans and is willing to listen to offers, stating the reason due to his struggling poor pre-season. Oh dear, not very good journalism at all there.
Rosler may very well be listening to offer for James, however I highly doubt it. McClean has been a player that Rosler has also said he was excited to work with and is a player he has tried to mold into an attacking option for the club. The reason for James poor pre-season maybe down to the fact he hasn't had one due to injury.
Two ways to look at what is being reported over in Ireland, either they are a step ahead of us and we are going to lose a left winger and bring in a right back. Or they aren't too sure what is going on so have made up some gibberish, I will let you decided.
