It has taken all week but the two of them are now Wigan Athletic players. It has been no secret that Leeds United captain Jason Pearce and Inverness CT striker Billy McKay have been target of the club, fees were reportedly agreed around Wednesday. The past two days have seen the players pass medicals and sign on the dotted line.
First to Pearce, the 27 year old defender joins the club for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £1 million with the player signing a long term deal according to the clubs website. It comes with experience from the likes of Bournemouth and Portsmouth before heading to Elland Road where he became captain.
Hailed by Malkay MacKay as the kind of player the team needs for his leadership and warrior like attitude, Pearce will join up with the squad ahead of the weekends game. I would expect him to slot into the starting 11 then.
The other piece of business we have concluded today is the signing of former Northampton player Billy McKay from Inverness. The striker heads back south of the border following a wonderful spell in Scotland where we became something of a club hero, heres hoping he can do the same for Wigan.
The fee is in the region of £200,000 and the player again puts pen to paper on a long term deal. Anyone any idea what that actually means? Regardless the striker will be available to play come the weekend against Ipswich Town and will take the number 10 shirt.
Looks like Mackay is making his mark on this team.
