15 minutes gone and it wasn’t 3-0 up this time but 2-0. Yanic Wildschut yet again ran the show, and off the two impressive performances he deserved a goal. This time he scored the first and a fantastic one at that. Gathering the ball up in the Latics half, Yanic danced his way past Peterborough players before firing a low strike past the beaten goalkeeper.
1-0 and Wigan were on top. The ball was flowing and moves a many were being made, you felt it was only time before it went to 2-0. Reece James would supply the impetus to get the goal. The youngster’s link up play with Wildschut down the left meant the defender found himself some space. A shot of goal hit Will Griggs who slotted it into the goal.
The £1 million striker now starting to show the kind of form we have all been waiting for him to burst into with 3 goal in two games. Hopefully he can continue that form.
That was it for Wigan goals in the first half. Slowly but surely Peterborough managed to get back into the game. The team from the south slowly started to play some very good football. Much like us though they looked vulnerable at the back.
Roll on the second half and the United comeback.
The first goal came from Erhun Oztumer. The ball bouncing about all over the place in the Wigan box, Jussi Jaaskelainen making two great saves. The ball fell to Oztumer who slotted home with our defence in tatters. 2-1 and the game was defiantly swinging back in the way of the home side.
It would take them nine minutes from the end to get the equalizer. Souleymane Coulibaly found space on the left hand-side of the Wigan Athletic box, the striker hit the ball true and it bounced over our goalkeeper into the back of the net. Our two goal lead pegged back and could this game end up with us losing out on any points?
Straight from kick off the ball was sent forward and come the end Max Power smashed the ball home. Craig Davies controlled the ball beautifully and then laid the ball off to the onrushing Power who broke clear of the Peterborough backline before slotting home.
For once we condensed at the back and held solidly. The three points taken safely back to Wigan and the teams confidence now flying high.
