Match Preview: Wigan Athletic vs Cardiff City

So Malcky Mackay's former employers come to town tonight. Wigan are hoping to scrap back some pride, Cardiff want to get back to winning ways.

This game though will be overshadowed by a much larger issue, which I think most Wigan fans couldn't give a tiny c**p about it. The fact that the issue continues to rumble on and that they want to keep making an issue of it, is by the by for me and the media as always wish to continue to stir it up.

So moving on to the more important matter of three points.

Our clueless manager will be without Leon Barnett, William Kvist and Leon Clarke (the striker having returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers). There are question marks over how fit Chris McCann really is, and that leaves us in one hell of a pickle.

With both Rob Kiernan and James Tavernier, who can both play in the midfield, out on loan we are becoming short of players. The question now is just who will fill the midfield gap? James Perch can do a job there, but is Emmerson Boyce ready for a return at right back?

Whilst there have been few calls from the Wigan fans for Gaten Bong to be played in a central role. Personally I would play him out left and replace Andrew Taylor who continues to fail to impress.

Our team line up will make for interesting reading tonight. Maybe an interesting line up could get us a result.

Cardiff City mean while, now under the management of Russell Slade, are slowly on the descent down the table. Seven point clear of Millwall and 13 points clear of us, the Bluebirds have only won one off their last 13 games in the league; they have drawn their last four though.

Poor form for a side who, with the squad they have, should be challenging much higher up. Although same could be said for ourselves.

To bring in more striker power they signed Eion Doyle from Chesterfield in January and he is now linking up top with the impressive figure of Kenwyne Jones. In theory that could turn out to be a partnership over time. Chances are they will start firing against us!

Let's hope I am wrong and we come flying out of the traps tonight, we are in desperate need of three points here!
