Confirmed Transfers: Perch Caught, McNaughton on Free

The one player from last season who the club have fought so hard to keep hold of left the club this week, and to plug the gap at right back we have brought in a very well respected experienced head.

James Perch, captain; leader and an exemplary figure at the club is now no more. Queens Park Rangers kept testing our resolve and eventually it cracked. The fourth time was the charm as QPR came in with an offer that we found was acceptable and the player has now been moved on.

The reported fee involved is now much closer to £750,000 with their being reports of addition add ons based on the players performances with QPR. It is a big loss for Wigan as Perchy could have been the player we would build our defense around for the coming season.

Sadly everyone has their price.

Come in though we have pulled off the free signing of Kevin McNaughton. The 32 year old experienced defender has finally completed his switch to the club after being on trail for two months. A player well respected by former club Cardiff City where he spent nine very good solid years and became known as a hard grafting player.

Sound very much up a player our alley this guy!

McNaughton adds a more experienced head and talented feet to what is becoming an increasingly younger side. Plus with the hard graft to get up and down the flank adding both defensive and attacking cover he brings the whole package in on a free deal.

Gary's squad is starting to take shape.
