One thing I have to say that is very encouraging with the club at the moment is how many young talented players we are looking to invest in. Yes you wonder why we aren’t using our own talent as much, but we are going back to what we were so good at and giving players a chance to showcase their talents. That has been sorely missing for the past couple of seasons.
The next instalment in this recruitment drive is 22 year old Danny Whitehead from Macclesfield Town. The midfielder who started his career at Stockport County, has previously played for West Ham United when his career looked to be on the rise. Yet like most young talent his progress faulted in the big clubs youth academy and he was let go.
Since joining Macclesfield, in the National Conference, the player has excelled once again and in 13 appearances this season has pitched in with four goals.
Gary Caldwell hasn’t waited to get his man, with the club paying a nominal fee for Whitehead with him heading back on loan to Macclesfield for the remainder of the season. He has signed a two and a half year deal and will be hoping to break into the team come the summer.
