Editors Blog: Wigan's Best Starting Eleven - Full Backs

Time to turn our attention to the men that defend the flanks, one of the great things about our player out wide is that they can play both as full back and wing backs. At current we have two older heads, and two younger lads who have the potential to go far.

Jan Kruger

James Perch

Mr Dependable mark two. James Perch has gone on from being a new boy to a fan favourite in one season and the reason for that? Always puts a 110% into everything he does and has the passion for the team, he reminds me very much of another defender who joined us as a right back eight years ago.

It is hard to see how James Perch could not be in the starting line up here at Wigan. Must make Rosler’s life much easier knowing that he has one player that he can depend on week in week out, would that change for you?

James Tavernier

The young right back who had an amazing pre-season and many expected to be challenging for a starting position this season, has kind of been pushed to the side. Maybe for a good reason, with the man having that much of a lack of experience slowly building him into the team could be the best option.

Powerful and quick he has that great mixture for a modern day full back; combine that with a great right foot who can deliver beautiful balls. Would he fight his way into your team?

Andrew Taylor

Signed this summer, and question marks could have been raised early season about his performances. Slowly though he has grown into the role, he may not be perfect however he gives 110% every game and has started to adapt his game to being more attacking and provide support further up the pitch. Has the experience at this level though and will become more solid in the back line as he gets us to his defensive partners.

So would he remain in your starting 11? Or would you prefer someone else to slot into that left sided role.

Patrick Taylor-Sinclair

The full back came with a very high reputation from Scotland and aren’t we all hoping he will follow into some famous footsteps. We haven’t really seen much of Patrick since his move across the border and hopefully that will change as time goes on. Known for being an attacking full back, he could be the best player to play in the left wing back position.

Would you give the call to a young defender to play on the left hand side of our defenc
