Editors Blog: Wigan's Best Current Eleven - The Verdict

You voted and well the results are in ladies and gentleman. I hope you like the team you have put together.

Well formation was the first draw and I thought I would let it come down to the players you picked. And well with two clear centre back votes I have gone for us to play 4-3-3. That meant a conventional back four, three midfielders preferably with one attack minded player, and three strikers, one with the ability to hold the ball up and two who have pace and get at the defenders.

Does the team reflect that?

Wigan's Best Current Eleven

Great to see that the Wigan faithful still see Ali as their number one, the Omani taking over from Scott Carson in goal. The back four is what under current form you would probably expect, however would the return of Maynor Figueroa change people minds about Andrew Taylor? Would for me.

Whilst the current form of James Tavernier has to be something to take into consideration over James Perch. That said in a back four, Perch is the more preferable option has he gives you a more defensive minded player than Tavernier is.

The midfield well that is probably what our first choice middle three would look like for me. With both Chris McCann and Ben Watson working hard and defensively, you free up Shaun Maloney to pull the strings from the midfield and so what he is good at. That would be picking out the attacking trio, which is where I think we are missing a player.

For me James McClean would come in ahead of Andy Delort to play out on the left hand side, and keep the other two the same. That way you have a player like Delort on the bench to bring on as an impact sub, which at the moment maybe the only way he is going to get game time in the current Wigan squad.

So what do you think? Is that our current strongest squad or would you too make changes? Comment below and tell us your thoughts.
