It looks like Gary Caldwell and Mr Sharpe are on a clear out mission at the moment as another player leaves the club.

I don't think many of us would have been expecting deals to happen today after our dealings at the end of last week. Yet Gary Caldwell did warn us to watch out for movement and movement has happened.

Richard O'Donnell has departed the club after only six months with us. The goalkeeper made 14 appearances for us during his time here, none of which inspired. The incoming experienced Jussi Jaasekelinane was valued more with the young Lee Nicholls as his understudy.

It meant O'Donnell was surplus to requirements and joined Bristol City of loan in early January. After four appearances, where he has clearly made an impression, they have made the move to sign him permanently from us.

The fee is undisclosed and the player has signed up for them for two and a half years.

All the best O'Donnell shame it never worked out for you over here at Wigan.

We knew a deal was close to being done, and we can now confirm that it has been. Wigan Athletic have signed their man with Yanic Wildschut completing a permanent deal to the club.

Since joining on loan back in October the Dutch winger has become one of the most talked about players in League One. His turn of pace and power on the ball means that he is a nightmare for defences which has seen him cause havoc for Wigan.

Yanic Wildschut’s loan deal came to an end on the 2nd January with the club chasing Middlesbrough to make it permanent. The story has been that Wildschut wanted to stay with Wigan and Middlesbrough were likely to let the player leave.

Yet the north east club have been hard to pin down when it come to an agreeable fee. Well that has now all been sorted and confirmed. The agreed upon fee is believed to be in the region of £600,000 with add ons which would see the total fee rise to the £1 million mark.

The player himself has put pen to paper on a three and a half year deal with the club and will be right back in contention for the game against Sheffield United on Tuesday night. When I am sure he will be up for the fight.

Welcome back to the club Yanic!

The former West Ham United and Stockport County midfielder has become Wigan Athletics’ second signing of the January transfer window as Gary Caldwell and his backroom staff look to the future.

One thing I have to say that is very encouraging with the club at the moment is how many young talented players we are looking to invest in. Yes you wonder why we aren’t using our own talent as much, but we are going back to what we were so good at and giving players a chance to showcase their talents. That has been sorely missing for the past couple of seasons.

The next instalment in this recruitment drive is 22 year old Danny Whitehead from Macclesfield Town. The midfielder who started his career at Stockport County, has previously played for West Ham United when his career looked to be on the rise. Yet like most young talent his progress faulted in the big clubs youth academy and he was let go.

Since joining Macclesfield, in the National Conference, the player has excelled once again and in 13 appearances this season has pitched in with four goals.

Gary Caldwell hasn’t waited to get his man, with the club paying a nominal fee for Whitehead with him heading back on loan to Macclesfield for the remainder of the season. He has signed a two and a half year deal and will be hoping to break into the team come the summer.

It has been no secret that Latics and Gary Caldwell have wanted to keep hold of attacker Yanic Wildschut. The Dutchman has been a revelation since coming to Wigan Athletic and his dynamic style of attack has terrorized defences this season.

It was an interesting farewell from Yanic Wildschut come the end of the game on Saturday. As he walked over to applaud the travelling Latics fans it looked very much like he was saying goodbye that was added to with his post-match tweets in which he thanked everyone for their support during his time here.

Our manager (Gary Caldwell) told a different story of a player who wanted to stay with us and a club that wanted him to stay.

The rumour had been about for a while that the player’s contract had been agreed and that everything else was and is in place for him to join us. The sticking point had been, and may still continuing to be, Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic agreeing a deal.

Yet as we argue, other teams have reportedly been showing interest, mostly Preston North End and Birmingham City. But could all that be about to change?

Reports today suggest that the two team have agreed a deal which could see the attacker join the club. It won’t be organised in time for him to play tomorrow but he could be a Wigan player by the weekend. Finger crossed this go through!

It is being reported that a fee of £1 million has been agreed between the two clubs, this will be paid in instalments. Stay tuned for further developments on this story, it could continue to rumble on.

Wigan completed their first signing of the transfer window and it is a young 19 year old goalkeeper from Torquay.

Dan Lavercombe who is a former Liverpool trainee has signed for the club on a two and a half year deal after a successful trail period with the club. The 19 year old goalkeeper has impressed on the coast this season and has been Torquay’s first choice keeper for the season in the Vanarama Conference.

He made his debut for Torquay at the age of 18 in April of 2015 and has cemented himself as their first choice, and only current permanent goalkeeper.

With all that in mind the club have concluded a deal to bring the player here, a fee which has been undisclosed, with Lavercombe set to return to Torquay for the remainder of the season. He will join up with Wigan for summer training.

Defiantly one for the future.
